What are the key aromatherapy tools and supplies to start getting advanced with? As a beginner, a vial of your favorite oil may be all it takes to get started with aromatherapy. But as your interest in aromatherapy expands, your collection of essential oils and aromatherapy tools will need to grow as well. Below is an overview of what you may find helpful in your expanding aromatherapy toolkit.
1. Diffusers. Diffusers disperse essential oils throughout a room, making a few drops of an oil go quite a long way. There are many different types on the market today, from simple reed and tea light diffusers to electronic diffusers and humidifiers. A few our beginner-friendly favorites are listed here.
- Tea light diffusers. For beginners, a simple tea light diffuser is a good choice. These diffusers depend on the heat of a tea light candle to disperse the essential oil’s aroma throughout the room. They are very beautiful, and can dramatically enhance the mood of a space!
- Terra cotta disc diffusers. These diffusers do not depend on a heat source to spread an essential oil’s aroma; instead, they simply allow it to evaporate out into the air. While terra cotta discs won’t spread an oil’s scent throughout an entire room, they are perfect for small personal spaces.
- Reed diffusers. The reeds in a reed diffuser soak up and spread the scent of an essential oil through the air. The reeds sit in a base oil infused with an essential oil. The oil blend then slowly seeps upwards through the reed’s stem and wafts out into the air. You’ll need to flip the reeds over every once in a while to encourage the aroma to spread.
2. Blending Supplies. When you begin to blend essential oils in order to create new scent and therapeutic combinations, you’ll need a safe way to combine them, refine them, and store them. To that end, you’ll the following basic supplies will come in handy:
- Glass bottles and droppers. These are useful for both measuring out drops of an essential oil and for storing any new blends you create. Our How to Store Aromatherapy Essential Oils section goes into more detail about why glass is so important for storing your oils.
- Beakers and measuring cups. These make it easy to measure and mix essential oils before sealing them away in their designated containers.
